Dr David Chieng is a Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist, Arrhythmia & Device Specialist based in Berwick. Dr Chieng is experienced in diagnosis and management of rhythm disorders.

PROFILE

Dr David Chieng is a consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist specialising in the management of heart rhythm disturbances, including cardiac arrhythmia (atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, SVT, ventricular tachycardia) ablation and cardiac device (pacemaker, defibrillator, cardiac resynchronization therapy) implantation.

 

He also manages all adult cardiovascular conditions, including cardiac risk assessment, heart failure, ischaemic heart disease, and acute coronary syndrome.

 

He completed his medical degree through the University of Western Australia with a UWA SWANS Scholarship, winning multiple academic prizes. He was awarded the prestigious Gotcher Clarke Intern of the Year Award (2011) for outstanding patient care. He then undertook a 4 year clinical fellowship training in electrophysiology and pacing at the Alfred Hospital and Royal Melbourne Hospital, and is a IBHRE certified cardiac device specialist (CCDS).  

 

He completed his PhD thesis in 2022 with the support of 3 prestigious scholarships, namely NHMRC, National Heart Foundation, and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute Bright Sparks scholarships.

 

He was the principal investigator of the CAPLA, Hi-Lo HEAT and STALL HFpEF randomized trials.

 

Dr Chieng has been recognised nationally and internationally for his achievements in clinical research by being awarded an unprecedented 20 prestigious young investigator awards thus far, including the University of Melbourne Graham Brown Prize (2023), the Eric Prystowsky Fellows Clinical Research Award (2023), the Noel and Imelda Foster Prize for Cardiovascular Research (2022), and the Paul Korner Medal for outstanding PhD achievements (2021).

 

Dr Chieng is multi-lingual and speaks fluent Mandarin and Malay/Indonesian.

REFERRALS & FEES

Dr Chieng does not routinely bulk bill, however he discounts for pensioners and healthcare cardholders. You do not need to have private health insurance for an appointment. 

You can only obtain the Medicare refund if you have been referred by another medical practitioner so please bring along your referral with you on the day.

Private Hospital Care

Dr Chieng participates in the 'No-GAP' cover with most of the private health insurance companies. This means that any ‘out of pocket’ doctor’s fees for your medical care in a private hospital will be kept to a minimum. Our office will provide further details at the time of your admission.
