On Wednesday, 22nd May, Heart of Melbourne proudly hosted a GP Education Session dedicated to enhancing cardiovascular care through collaborative learning. The event brought together local general practitioners for an evening of insightful discussions led by two distinguished speakers in the field of cardiology.

We were honoured to welcome Professor David Hare, who delivered an engaging and thought-provoking presentation on Lipoprotein(a) in Cardiology. His session highlighted the clinical significance of elevated Lp(a) levels, the challenges in diagnosis, and the evolving treatment landscape. GPs were given practical tools and knowledge to consider Lp(a) as an important cardiovascular risk factor, especially in patients with a family history of premature heart disease.

Also presenting on the night was Dr. Kuhendra Bala, who offered a clear and accessible explanation of CT Coronary Angiography (CTCA) and Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring. His talk focused on how these diagnostic tools can be used effectively in general practice to assess cardiac risk and guide patient management. GPs appreciated the clinical case examples and clear guidance on when to refer for CTCA or calcium scoring.
The evening provided a valuable platform for GPs to connect directly with our cardiologists, ask questions, and gain insights to support their day-to-day practice. The session was well received and reflected our ongoing commitment to education, collaboration, and better patient outcomes.
Thank you to all who attended and made the evening a success. We look forward to hosting more educational sessions in the near future.
